The preparations for TERTS 2007 are in full swing. Between Friday 26 October and Saturday 3 November, Amsterdam RAI will host an exhibition packed with innovations. You will also find the very latest news and developments related to trucks and delivery vans, trailers, specialised vehicles, components, accessories, telematics, IT and transport solutions.

TRANSPORT PLAZA: One-stop shopping with seven partners
During TERTS, seven large transportation-related partners will exhibit together at one stand on the Transport Plaza. The one-stop shopping concept offers visitors a unique chance to efficiently find a wide range of information on various issues concerning road transport.

The following organisations and companies are taking part:
  • BP
  • VTL
  • Teleroute
  • Reintegrated Centre for Road Transport, (RCW)
  • Randstad Transport
  • BGZ Road Transport
  • The Dutch Transport Operators Association (TLN)

Exhibition offers
´This is exactly why we decided to create a joint platform with the name Transport Plaza,´ says Willem de Vries, chairman of Randstad Transport. According to De Vries, the concept does not mean that the seven Transport Plaza partners will be doing everything together. ´Each partner will have its own section at the stand where they can offer their own products and services, including any special TERTS offers. But for customers, the Transport Plaza allows them to do business in a compact area within a type of one-stop shopping format. ´

Especially for drivers
Drivers will also be catered for. ´We aim to develop a number of activities especially directed towards drivers during the first weekend of TERTS. They are a very important group of people for us.´
THE MERCEDES-BENZ EXPERIENCE
Mercedes-Benz will use TERTS 2007 as a platform to introduce a significant number of new products. Highlights include:
  • brand-new fully-automated Powershift12 gearbox for the upgraded Axor
  • new Unimog U20
  • specially developed truck based on the Econic that has a natural gas engine

Upgraded Axor
The premier product news is undoubtedly the launch of the upgraded Axor. This is now available with the automated Powershift12 gearbox, which has already replaced the well-known Telligent gearbox in the Actros. The addition of the Powershift12 makes the Axor once more a state-of-the-art option in the mid-distance truck sector. The new system changes gear much faster and is even more intelligent than its Telligent predecessor. In addition, the vehicle is now 50 kilos lighter. This weight loss is achieved because, as the name suggests, the Powershift12 only needs 12 gears, while the Telligent had 16 gears plus an extra set of cogs.

The most important difference of all is that Powershift12 has a constant mesh transmission, i.e. without synchronised rings. This makes the design far simpler (with significantly fewer parts), more robust, lighter in weight and above all, thanks to the applied electronics, much faster. Mercedes-Benz still supplies the Axor with a nine-gear manual unit.

New Unimog
For those who spend just as much time off road as on it, Mercedes-Benz will be revealing the highly anticipated Unimog U20. This latest addition to the impressive range of all-rounders combines enormous potential with a more compact size and shorter chassis. The latter enhances above all the manoeuvrability of the vehicle.

The Unimog U20 also has a completely different cab to the previous Unimogs, although the cab itself is not new as it comes from the Japanese truck brand Fuso and can also be seen in Europe on the Mitsubishi Canter. The new Unimog U20 is intended as an entry model and is therefore priced at a level which is sure to attract a large number of orders.

Mercedes-Benz will also show its new natural-gas powered truck at TERTS 2007. This is based on the chassis of the Econic series, which is extremely popular as a waste collection vehicle and at airports. Drivers can easily get in and out during frequent stops thanks to the low entry, and the low cab also makes the Econic a good option as a front loader.

Specially developed truck
Mercedes-Benz is convinced that this new and multi-functional gas-powered truck will prove ideal for environmentally sensitive areas such as inner cities. The 279 hp engine also meets the stringent EEV (Enhanced Environmentally-friendly Vehicle) exhaust emission standards and makes 50 percent less noise than a comparable diesel.
NEW MULTILIFT HOOKLIFT
HIAB will introduce its new generation of Multilift hooklift systems at TERTS 2007, displaying the XR30 for the first time. The XR30 is a new development on the previously launched XR 21 and 26.

New features
New features include the fact that the system is now compatible with the modern PLC and CAN-bus systems with which all trucks are now equipped. The ‘30’ in the XR30 from Multilift stands for the tonnage. The XR range replaces the current generation of Leebur and Multilift. The CAN-bus control system ensures that the brand is ready for the future. The hooklift and truck electronics are fully separated. A new, modern and ergonomically designed control unit was also developed for the XR series with even more user-friendliness and precision. It has become easier to find malfunctions because of the self-diagnostic tools of the system controls and the standardised CAN-bus cable harnesses. The further enhancement of the steel construction in terms of geometrics and the use of cast steel parts in places vulnerable to high strain have increased the life span of the system.

Revolutionary new assembly concept
The new assembly concept is revolutionary. The groundwork of the entire sub-frame is provided with a holed pattern and the chassis is assembled using bolt fixings. Splashboards, side screens, tool kits and sail racks are also fixed with bolts. All system and construction parts are cast at component level. This produces the best possible conservation of the entire installation.

And with the help of friction relief, the front of the container is slightly lifted during horizontal movement. This makes for a quieter and smoother operation, as well as increasing the life-span of the system.
